REACH Youth Cafe strives to provide a safe haven for their existing youth at risk to hang out in their centre, while providing them with quality food and drinks they can find in common cafes.
The Thad and Thai Kitchen is located at 190 Toa Payoh Lorong 6 #-01-520, 310190. With an indoor hawker center concept that occupy up to 50 pax, the restaurant provides authentic Thai cuisine and popular local dishes. The Thad and Thai Kitchen is also known for their multi-colored drinks.
Coffeemin is located within Jcube Shopping Mall at #02-11. Unlike The Thad and Thai Kitchen, Coffeemin does not sell an array of dishes. Their focus is to provide consumers with a cosy atmosphere to hang out. They offer various game facilities and free flow of drinks and snacks.
Oh My Cafe is located within Westgate Shopping Centre at #B1-01. The cafe adopts a vintage concept and sells Contemporary Western & Asian cuisine. Besides their popular dishes, they are also known for their cakes and instagrammable drinks. They include soda beverages called “Nade” (LemoNADE, get it?), light bulb drinks, yogurt in bottles, and coffee.
Our takeaways from the three different cafes
Aesthetic can only attract a niche group of consumers who values appearance. However, in order to gain more attraction, there has to be reasonable and good food. From our visit to Oh My Cafe, we deduced that there was no crowd even with pretty decorations because of their overpriced menu that has no uniqueness.
Hence, we will be designing our menu according to the survey findings we obtained regarding the existing youths’ preferences and come up with a signature item to meet their demands of these youths and attract them for the speciality. Since we tasted their colored drinks, it stirred our curiosity about the probability of developing something similar that possess unique taste and vibrant appearance as well.
Additionally, the visit to Coffeemin made us understand that board games and recreational facilities can also attract youths to visit and stay in the cafe. Hence, as consultants and project leads for REACH Youth Cafe, we will be incorporating such facilities in order to be in line with what the youths seek for in a hang out spot. This will help generate interest of the youths and motivate them to visit.
