In Singapore, there are many places where youths like to hang out. Some of which include cafes and open spaces. To fit these trends, the government plans to revamp selected spaces such as *SCAPE to make it more appealing to youths, and to create more of such spaces for youths to hang out outside the central business district (Mark, 2014).

However, there have been debates about the need to create more of such spaces among the youths themselves. Some youths claimed that a space can just be a place with good food and activities that fit their interests, while others shared that it should be avenues where talents are showcased, and where like-minded individuals pursue interests together (Mark, 2014).
In our opinion, this article is very relevant to REACH as the DIY4YCAFE is to create a space where youths feel comfortable to hang out. Hence, it serves as a good indication of the important pointers to note when conceptualising for the cafe to fit the interests of youths. From the cafe’s point of view, the important things would include the menu, facilities, and like-minded youths (operational team with the passion to gain food and beverage skills) that will adhere and attract them to come and own the space.
To conclude, we are unable to determine if the space is a youth space. But we are certainly able to make the relevant adjustments to enable the youths to truly call it theirs.
